In 2019, Blinkink got commissioned to direct the animation sequence in the movie Dora and the Lost City of Gold (click here to have a look at the backgrounds I have painted for the sequence).
Here are some of the images I made during the preproduction:
First, the colorboard I’ve done for the whole sequence, based on the storyboards by Tim Dillnut and Yohann Auroux.
We spent a couple of weeks defining the style we would use, and part of that process was to paint four different designs of the pink flower that triggers the animated hallucination, from the most stylized to the most realistic. We ended up using a mix of the second and third one. I also painted different elements from the jungle to use as references in our backgrounds.
Finally, the last image is the concept art I’ve made back when we were pitching for the project.
